ODWC encourages youth to plan for future

Adela, Cabrina and Andrew question fellow students about a proposed business in downtown Andrews.
On July 24, 2012, One Dozen Who Care, Inc. sponsored a Mentor Day through its Small Business Entrepreneurship initiative in Andrews, North Carolina. Local professionals, employed and self-employed, discussed the rewards and challenges of running a business, and making a living in this economically distressed region of far western North Carolina.
Virginia Haynes, Andrews High School Principle, invites youth to choose from a gallery of images of vacant buildings as the site for their future businesses.
Andrews High School Principal, VIrginia Haynes, instructed the youth to survey pictures of empty downtown storefronts.
Kylan guesses the identity of a business from the contemporary image of the vacant building left behind.
With the empty buildings, and a $1-million “virtual loan”, the youth discussed plans to open bait and tackle shops, pizza parlors, and a family-oriented fun park with bowling alleys.

Each team had an opportunity to present their plans to the audience and to field questions about employment, funding and advertising. Newly-appointed Chamber of Commerce President, Margaret DeLuna, encouraged the students to attend the next chamber meeting and present their ideas to the board.

PAMELA RICHMOND-MEDIA PRODUCER – PRESENTATION: “POWER PRODUCING MEDIA!”

Pamela Richmond - 2012

Media Marketing

Pamela Richmond set her eyes on the “BIG” prize when she vowed to be the next Connie Chung or Dan Rather at an early age. Born in Los Angeles, California, she was raised in five different states due to her father’s promotions in the US Forest Service, before graduating from high school. She accepted a full athletic volley-ball scholarship and a degree in communications from Jefferson College in Missouri where she also co-anchored the county news. She continued her education on another full athletic scholarship at Ohio University, while studying Broadcast Journalism, and was chosen as an anchor for the campus radio station.
Pamela’s desire and ability to use the power of the media to change people’s lives, kept all aspects of the media at the forefront of her career aspirations for 22 years. Her experience includes; writing and producing commercials, advertising, marketing and several areas of production for television, film, radio, newspaper and internet.
Strong conviction led Pamela into the world of entrepreneurship and she started BIG ENTERPRISE, a multi-media Production Company that operates out of Nashville. BIG offers media related products and services to clients using every form of communication to deliver their most powerful message. She resides in Nashville with her husband of 19 years and seven year old daughter and enjoys, travel, reading and writing and quality time with family. Her mission is to deliver power-filled, life changing, and revenue increasing results for businesses and families through a media format. She believes the “BIGGEST” prize is revealed when God does immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. That is the basis for, “Power Producing Media!”
